It is a priority to make the menu structure for he Master Controller in the Plant Room and slave stations (e.g. Pool House) as simple as possible to operate. The displays in the Pool House and Plant Room are essentially similar when the system is operating normally and the pool is commissioned. Only the Master controller display in the Plant Room offers access to vital system settings in order to prevent unauthorised or accidental alteration.
An uncluttered display normally shows the set and actual temperatures of the main pool and Spa pool, Pool House internal and external temperature, and the time and date.
A simple touch anywhere on the screen will provide access to a menu, offering the ability to change user settings. Further touches as guided by the menu structure will offer choices of changing Main Pool temperature, Spa Pool temperature, Pool House temperature and timing, Domestic Hot Water timing, system Time, or return to previous screen. The next screens provide a straightforward method of updating the required function.
For obvious reasons the Spa and main pool entries would not be available if the pool or Spa status is set as decommissioned (set on the Maintenance menu), which would be the case during maintenance or Winter shut-down of an outdoor pool. This modifies the menus available in the Pool House, and prevents normal operation of the Spa and main pool heat exchangers and filter pumps.
If required, the user can be prompted for a pass code in order to make any changes. Although a little Draconian for the regular user, it requires no carrying of keys or tokens by the user and would certainly prevent small children for example from accidentally changing something important. Other methods (E.g. Biometric) are available if required.
Note that the setting range for variables such as main or Spa pool temperatures are restricted, so that no dangerous values can be entered (e.g. Spa range 5-38 Degrees Celsius, Main pool 5-30 Degrees Celsius).
Maintenance menus are only available in the Plant Room, and provide the facility to operate the Boiler (with pump of course) and set temperatures, operate any of the system pumps or motor any of the valves in the heating system (subject to these being permissible combinations of course). Options are provided to run the pool and Spa pumps as required for back-washing filters, pool cleaning, etc.
Generally it is not be necessary to protect the Plant Room Panel with a pass code, since the room itself would generally be kept locked. However this is available for activation if required.
The maintenance options are available to provide web-page style management over Ethernet, whether this is from the main house or the Internet at large. This functionality is already built into the system, requires a link to the Internet to be provided along with a suitable router.
If a fault is detected the system will display a warning on the home screen and can send an email to the pool owner or maintenance contractor . This can then be accessed on site or remotely using app or webserver . Once a fault is detected the system will shut down related equipment and continue to
allow the system to operate this means a fault in the spa would not put the pool out of action but if a pipe had split it would shut don’t the appropriate pump to prevent flooding of the plant room .
